Second Semester

I’m now a couple weeks into my second semester of classes. I had initially registered for 3 welding classes and blueprint reading, but as the new semester approached, I couldn’t imagine not being in ceramics again, so at the last minute, I registered for Ceramics II and Sculpture. I doubled my class load from last semester and had to cut back to 4 days a week at the ol’ job, neither of which has caused regret!

I was worried I’d be a little overwhelmed with the amount of classes and the work involved in each one. Ceramics and Sculpture are each 3 hours long, the 3 welding classes are 5 hours and blueprint reading is 2 hours. I was able to work out a schedule that allows me to be at the school all day Monday and Wednesday, I can take advantage of studio time between classes, to get more work done in Ceramics and Sculpture if I need to, or finally sit down and do some much needed writing here!

All of my classes are fun and challenging and, at times, frustrating! Blueprint reading requires adding and subtracting fractions, converting fractions to decimals and vice versa. Those are some brain cells I haven’t used since I took algebra during my undergrad in 2009!

The 3 welding classes are all different types of welding, so each day requires remembering which settings, travel speed, etc. But, I’ve learned you can teach an old dog new tricks, so I’m getting there! I’m so glad I quit that dumb office job and started making art!!
